My Sheri Crafts #146: It's Turkey Time

For today's new challenge, we're simply asking you to include a turkey.  I created my little turkey basically following directions I found here.
Using Spellbinders' Classic Inverted Circles, Large and Small, I die cut my felt 'feathers' in orange, green, brown & yellow felt, along with a circle in brown.  I layered them onto a cardboard circle and added a second cardboard circle 'sandwich ' using foam tape to attach my pipe cleaner legs (after coloring the white pipe cleaner brown).

Two pompoms in beige/brown were used for the head, yellow felt for the beak, red felt for the wattle and wiggly eyes complete his face and finish off this simple Thanksgiving Day decoration.  I think they'd be perfect for table place settings!

Looking forward to seeing your "Turkey Time" projects @ My Sheri Crafts soon!!!

My Sheri Crafts Challenge #123: Thanksgiving

Our challenge @ My Sheri Crafts asks simply that you create a project that's Fall or Thanksgiving related -- so let's see yours!

Simplicity ruled for me, as a family emergency consumed several days. All ended well, so that's ALL that matters in the end and I now need this card for a neighbor that helped me in my time of need. I designed this card with him in mind and kept it very simple and as masculine as I could. I chose Kraft CS and a deep red-orange Bazzill CS to add behind my Spellbinders' die-cut bottom edge. Using JustRite's stamp set (Give Thanks Nested Frames & Occasions - retired) and two coordinating Just Rite die sets (retired), I stamped my leaf/acorn frame and sentiment and popped them up with foam dots for dimension atop my brown ribbon. That's it for me now, but I'll be watching for your project @ MSC!!!

JustRite Friday Challenge #062: Give Thanks

For this JustRite Friday Challenge to make and give or send a thank you card or gift I kept my card fairly CAS to let the sentiment and fall frame take center stage!
My sentiment (Baroque Nested Frames) and frame (Give Thanks Nested Frames) are die cut using JustRite's Nested Frames and Nested Sentiment custom dies that are so fun to work with! I used the small additional die flower piece to back the cream frame and then cut an additional orange frame from a slightly larger Nested Frames' die to back the whole piece before mounting it over my ribbon. I LOVE that this adds just a smidge of border color in the background -- so many possibilities with these awesome custom dies.
My cream layer's border was cut/embossed with a combination of Spellbinders' Classic Bracket and Classic Ric Rac Edgeabilites and I ran machine stitching just above them. The little acorn accent piece was cut from shrink plastic (Spellbinders' retired die) and colored with Copic markers before shrinking.
I'm so happy you stopped by today and hope you'll make and send a thank you card to someone too. It's always so nice to discover a card in my mailbox and this card will be mailed right after our Thanksgiving celebration.

My Sheri Crafts Challenge #73: Be Thankful

After seeing this awesome Grateful banner by Kelli on Pinterest, I knew what I would make for our challenge this week at My Sheri Crafts!  I gathered my supplies and went to work die cutting my pennants and banner basics' decorative strips. After having made this Halloween banner (which DD was thrilled to receive!), this second one went together pretty quickly.
Something about the word "gather" on Kelli's banner just spoke to me:  the thought of what the original Thanksgiving was truly all about -- a gathering in of the harvest and a gathering of family and friends together to equally share in the bounty of that harvest and the love and thankfulness everyone was feeling way back then in their new homeland.
I think this project is pretty straightforward as far as assembly goes, so I'll just add that if anyone has any questions about any project or product, please feel free to leave a comment or email me, as I'm always happy to share! I hope you'll take a peek at all the lovely projects our DT Ladies and our Guest Designer at My Sheri Crafts' created this week and perhaps leave a comment or two and PLEASE JOIN US by posting your own project!!! Always thankful you stopped by today!

Supplies:  Spellbinders' Pennants/Lacey Pennants/Banner Basics Three; DP - Autumn Abundance from Papertrey Ink; CS - brown Bazzill, Orange Zest & Summer Sunrise from PTI; Dew Drops from The Robin's Nest and flocked chipboard letters, source unknown; Creamsicle Gingham ribbon & Boshers from Bazzill Basics, various fibers.

JustRite Friday Challenge #061: Get Scrappy

What a FUN challenge JustRite's latest turned out to be! Stumped at first for what to make from my numerous scraps, mostly Halloween remnants, I spied a strip and left-over piece of 12" orange Bazzill CS in my heap -- the end result are these "strip" pumpkins for my Thanksgiving centerpiece and place cards, similar to ones I've seen all over the Web and on Pinterest that I'd been wanting to try my hand at!
My largest is made of twenty 1" x 12" strips through which I punched a small hole with my Crop-a-Dile at each end and threaded with brown ribbon. For my centerpiece I doubled a 14" long ribbon strip, threaded it through a 2-hole button at the bottom, then through the top holes. Then I simply tied a knot at the desired spot, and flared out my strips. Since I used wired ribbon, once I pushed it down and fanned out my strips, I merely added 1/4" Scor-Tape to secure my ribbon "stem" together and cut it diagonally. On my leaves, left over when I used  the flower on another project, I used Dried Marigold distress ink, then sprayed with Mimosa Glimmer Mist for a bit of sparkle and inserted the stems between the pumpkin and my taped stem. I airbrushed pipe cleaners with Copic E57, curled around a crochet hook and then around my stem.
I recently purchased Give Thanks Nested Frames during JustRite's Super Sale, so picking a stamp was easy! Since I don't yet have their Nested Frames Dies, I used the large frame as an accent border along my sentiment's left edge. I LOVE it! I die cut a Papertrey Ink Vintage Cream CS scrap (ALWAYS on my craft table!) with Spellbinders' Fancy Tags Two, masked the edges and stamped the little border and sentiment. A bit of Antique Linen distress ink, followed with a spritz of Mimosa Glimmer Mist and my sentiment tag simply slips over the stem. Once the holiday is over, you simply remove the tag/leaves/tendrils and fold all the strips under each other to easily store your pumpkin until next year!
My little place card pumpkin uses 3/8" wide strips cut 3 1/2" long and secured with orange brads at each end. A name tag for each dinner guest is made again using Spellbinders' Fancy Tags Two and the Nested Frames border, plus JustRite's 50 pt. Curlz Alphabet letters for each guest's name. I cut the fancy right end off my tag as it seemed a bit long -- don't be afraid to make your dies "work" for your needs! I also added a small leaf cut from Spellbinders' Foilage die and cut a wire stem from a paper rose, again using my E57 Copic marker to color the wire's paper wrap, curled it and added it to my tiny pumpkin.
Hope the shimmer shows on my tag/leaves as it really adds a nice touch, kind of like "frost on the pumpkin" which I never see here in the AZ desert!

Spellbinders' Eyelet Pendant Pumpkin

When I saw this adorable pumpkin on Kimberly's blog (right after I bought the Eyelet Pendant with a coupon from our new Hobby Lobby), I just had to CASE it. Finally got around to doing it today using some lightly textured paper from Bazzill's Warehouse Sale. Full directions are on Kimberly's blog, along with a smaller one made with the next smaller die in the Eyelet Pendant set, so I won't repeat them here. The smaller one is totally cute too, but my beloved Wizard is "acting up", so I haven't made a small one.

Give Thanks Card

EDITED to add: After my card stared @ me for a couple days (LOL!), I decided that at the very least it needed 3 little brown buttons -- there, that's better!!!
Just a simple Thanksgiving card today, as I'm struggling to find my mojo -- seems to have gone missing AGAIN--hate when that happens & I have no good reason for it! My friend Ilene loaned me her Holiday Limited Edition Nesties to try to jumpstart my creativity. I got a bit carried away with my sponge & distress inks on the edges of my pumpkin here and then was at a loss as to what else to do. Do you ever have that problem? I didn't want to waste any more of this lovely Basic Grey Mellow DP, so I finally just stopped after adding the sentiment, leaving the inside blank so I could write a message on it IF I decide to use this card. I'm taking a break & hope to try another card later today--wish me luck, as I obviously NEED it!!!
Paper: Bazzill scalloped CS; Basic Grey Mellow DP
Stamps: Fiskars Turkey Lurkey
Ink: PTI's Dark Chocolate; Rangers' Old Paper & Vintage Photo Distress Inks
Embellishments: Brown Ric Rac & waxed floss (colored with Copic E57; buttons from stash

New Holiday Rubber Stamp Idea

As my dear friend, Gwen, and I are discussing what we're making for a Christmas card on email tonight, my brother coincidentally sends me an email, saying: "Due to increasing age, forgetfulness, and my decreasing ability to send cards on time here is my card to cover every Holiday" with the accompanying photo! Too funny!!! Gwen & I both had the idea it should be posted here! Enjoy!!!
Gwen thinks someone needs to make this into a stamp -- we could spend our time making cards for every occasion BUT a national holiday then & save a lot on postage, huh?!!! I like the frig posting idea too!!! LOL!!! Aren't email and the Internet wonderful -- what did we ever do before we had them?!!!

Hey Turkey!!!

Once again, this darling idea (like my previous post) came from Vicki Hook here! She said: " Go ahead, try it! You know you want to!" She was right -- so I did!!! And I'm so glad I did; with the Nesties, he didn't really take very long to make either! Vicki's site is full of awesome ideas, so I've got to go back & look around some more!!!
He's so cute I've not decided whether to put him on a card or perhaps just make him a decor item for Thanksgiving. Wouldn't these be adorable as placeholders for your holiday dinner?! You could put the person's name on the front of him cut out with a scalloped rectangle - too cute!!! You could even use smaller Nesties for those; I used my largest.

Happy Thanksgiving Card with Inkadinkado

Ever have one of those times when even the smallest little card is so darn challenging you just want to throw it in the trash & totally forget the whole thing? Well, I'm "persistent" (now I know some might say that's a nice word for "stubborn", but I prefer persistent -- just like I'm sometimes "precise" but never "anal"!) Hee-Hee!!! Anyway, our Costco (YES, Costco!) had 3 sets of Inkadinkado stamps, each containing 128 stamps, an acrylic block & one black ink for $19.89 ! Who could resist?! I actually only got 2 sets, but since I just "blew my wad" at CKC, well . . . . The big problem with Costco's "seasonal" items is that if you don't grab it when you first see it, you'll probably miss out totally. They'll have wonderful scrapbooking items now through the end of the year & then "poof" -- they're mostly gone until next fall. So, after many mishaps & changes in paper choices, etc., here's my little Thanksgiving card!!! ;-)
Paper: Speckled Kraft Cardstock
Stamps: Inkadinkado's Holiday Seasons Clear Stamps
Ink: Tsukineko's Pigments: Bamboo, Paprika & Brown
Tools: Spellbinders' Wizard & Long Rectangle Nesties

Simple Happy Thanksgiving Door Hanger

A very simple Thanksgiving door hanger, which I left that way since I thought the leaves in the paper were so gorgeous that I'd just let them be. The 12" x 12" leafy sheet is by Provo Craft and is from Michaels. The phrase stamp is from many years ago, as are the ribbons and leaf brads. Since we're seemingly unable to get any very cool weather here in Arizona yet this year, this paper made me remember Thanksgivings from long ago in the Midwest and memories of cooler days!

Two Thanksgiving Cards Shared by Friends

(Sorry, photo corrupted/lost!)
Deva's green Thanksgiving card includes gorgeous silk leaves that I believe she said were from Dollar Tree (they're magnificent), pretty ribbon, brads in fall colors and cute phrase stamp. She added orange & green Stickles to the leaves & acorn for added pizzazz -- truly a beautiful card "in person"! Ilene's card with pumpkins, swirly "vine", phrase and silk leaves all by Close to My Heart (I think) and added punched leaves, bow and Stickles glitz is a vision of fall loveliness also! Now you know why getting together to craft with these ladies is so much fun -- they never cease to amaze me!!!

Happy Fall Card

I'm still not sure I like this, but I'm trying to use supplies I've had for a long time. The CS is Stampin' Up's
Close to Cocoa; the maple leaf is a Sizzix die embossed on a yellow scrap of Costco double-sided paper & mounted to a cranberry scrap. I lightly sanded the leaf and used my EK Success corner punch to mount it to the cranberry piece. Since I didn't have a stamp or letters small enough, I typed the vertical phrase on my computer in brown letters, printed it out, used re-positionable tape to mount another mustard piece over the letters and reprinted the phrase. To attach the metal leaf brads to the twill tape, I just cut tiny slits in the tape.

Autumn's Beauty

A fall card using the Palette Stamp & Stick Gluepad by Stewart Superior Corp., http://www.stewartsuperior.com/, with gold leafing. I like that the leaf's center is very faint, just like so many fall leaves you find on the ground that are paper-thin in places. After 2 unsuccessful attempts with the gluepad, I re-read the directions on the gold leaf package, which stated that the stamped image needed to be completely dry, so the glue won't smear, and that it's "virtually impossible" to overheat the gluepad "ink". I tried again & heating longer was the key. I also pulled the edge of the rectangle along the gluepad & gold-leafed it. The Rubber Stampede leaf stamp is one I've had since 2001, background cardstock is from XpedX, biggie brad is by Karen Foster Design and letters are Making Memories.
